Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
How We Learn: Research Opportunities
Every resident must complete a research project during
their residency program. Fortunately, there are numerous
opportunities to participate in both clinical and basic
science research projects at the UConn Health Center and
opportunities for clinical research at the affiliated
hospitals. The faculty will help the resident develop the
research project and the goal is to produce a study that can
be published in a peer-reviewed journal.
The clinical research unit will have the capability to
guide the resident through the development of a clinical
research project. (The residents also must compile a
separate research project while at CCMC.)
Current resident research project topics include:
-
Elbow anatomy
-
Humeral fracture plating
-
Clubfoot
-
Rotator cuff repair
-
Elbow mechanics in pitchers
-
ACL injuries in female athletes
-
Elderly hip fracture treatment
-
Orthobiologic use for treatment of fractures
-
Carpal tunnel syndrome
-
Adolescent scoliosis
-
Multiple anatomic studies: elbow, shoulder, ankle
-
Multiple biomechanical studies: long bones, implants, ankle and knee joint loading, etc.
