Orthopaedic Surgery Residency
How We Learn: Resources
The UConn program administration provides multiple resources to supplement resident learning, and our many libraries make gathering information very easy.
The Harry Gossling library is presently
being renovated to be a state of the art educational
resource for the residents. In addition, each affiliated hospital offers
a full-service library, including remote access to multiple
on-line journals and electronic texts. Many of the library
staff are willing to help with or essentially complete
literature searches for you with just a simple request.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery also provides each resident with a selection of texts and has arranged for a financial grant from Stryker
Inc. that allows each resident to select a text of choice. Some of the
books that have been obtained include:
- Skeletal Trauma
- Essentials of Musculoskeletal Imaging
- Orthopaedic Basic Science
- Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics
- Hoppenfeld’s Surgical Exposures
- Hand Surgery Update
The Division of Sports Medicine also has an agreement with
local school systems for the residents to cover high school football
games. This is a program where the residents cover the local high school football game
as team physician in exchange for $125.00 in book store credit to be
used for any book available.
Lastly, through the Greater Hartford Orthopaedic Research and Education Fund, each resident is eligible for a stipend of $250.00 toward a course of their choice per year. Unfortunately, the
stipends cannot be accrued, but with New York City and Boston so close, travel expenses can be minimal. |
